hail-caesar-streaming-itaA while ago another Redditor mentioned Sharpe and I commented saying I hadn't gone back to it as I was concerned it wouldn't have aged well, as it was, for the most part, a product of the 90s. But, I decided I would go back and reassess myself. I am very glad I did. Based on the series of novels by Bernard Cornwell, (creator of The Last Kingdom series that the tv show is based on) I watched Sharpe originally as a teenager and I enjoyed the boys own adventure style of each movie length episode. Like most things when you go back, after enough time has passed, you get to see it with fresh eyes. Some parts have dated. For example the views on women. They tend to go weak at the knees whenever Sharpes around and come across like Bond girls, there to look at and not serve a purpose between being slapped around and being 'delicate'. There are exceptions to this such as Teresa in the first few episodes. Also, the armies and battle scenes only ever appear to be around 30 people, which shows the limits of the budget.
