[Spoilers] Someone please explain what the hell happened in Nerawareta Gakuen? : anime

Director Shinkai Makoto is perhaps one of the most talked-about anime directors in this age. His breakthrough brainchild Voices of a Distant Star demonstrates his talent for telling sentimental stories about bittersweet young love, but he is also well-known for his artistic prowess, from his signature visual style of clouds to picturesque drawings of nature-oriented backdrops. He has established quite a strong reputation in these two fields, and there aren't many other anime productions that quite resemble his works … that is, until director Nakamura Ryosuke 's debut full-length movie Nerawareta Gakuen. While Nakamura 's debut is perhaps not as adeptly handled overall as one of Shinkai's works, Nakamura has proven that he has the potential to rival Shinkai at his own game. Nerawareta Gakuen invokes the same vibes as Shinkai 's works mainly because of two things: one is the art style and the other is the overarching theme of the story. The movie is artistically gorgeous; a lot of attention is paid in the meticulous details of the visuals from the cherry blossom petals being blown in the breeze to the gleaming rays of light shining through classroom windows.

Title: Nerawareta Gakuen aka Psychic School Wars Genre: Drama Company: Sunrise Format: Movie, 110 minutes. Dates: 20 Oct 2012 Synopsis: It's the start of a new school semester for a junior high school in Kamakura, which welcomes a new transfer student by the name of Kyougoku Ryouichi. Handsome and enigmatic, he immediately becomes popular with his classmates, but in truth, he is a time traveler from the future with special telepathic ability. He uses it to fulfill his mission of scouting latent psychics. As time passes by, Kyougoku learns that Seki Kenji, an air-headed classmate whom he met on first day of school, is the only one immune to his power. Why is that so, and how is Seki going to stop Kyougoku from carrying out his plan? The Highlights Visuals: Dreamy; resembles Shinkai Makoto 's art style, albeit a bit overdone. Premises: Unoriginal; banal character archetypes and relationships. Story: Well written but poorly executed; gets convoluted toward the end. Ending: A tad melodramatic although nicely presented.

Unknown to even him, Kenji is a powerful psychic whose powers were sealed by his grandfather. Natsuki Suzuura ( 涼浦 ナツキ, Suzuura Natsuki) Voiced by: Mayu Watanabe, [5] Mai Hodo (young) (Japanese); Cassandra Lee Morris (English) [6] Natsuki is an athletic girl who is devoted to running track. Her vivacious nature is demonstrated through her gymnastic movements. She and Kenji have lived next to one another since they were young children and are good friends. Natsuki has held a one-sided love for Kenji and is often confused by her own feelings. On the one hand, she wishes to support Kenji, but on the other, she wishes her feelings would reach him. As a result, she often says and does things to Kenji she does not mean. At some point, Kenji was in a life threatening coma and she traded her psychic powers for his safe recovery, which leaves her powerless. Kahori Harukawa ( 春川 カホリ, Harukawa Kahori) Voiced by: Kana Hanazawa (Japanese); Alyson Leigh Rosenfeld (English) [6] Kahori is an outwardly perfect girl.

Ryouichi Kyougoku, who claims to be a psychic, has both the charisma and popularity that Kenji has always dreamed of. Before long, Kahori begins to show feelings for Ryouichi, and Natsuki becomes distant whenever Kenji tries to talk about his feelings. As Kenji's life is thrown into disarray, how will Ryouichi's arrival impact those around him? Nerawareta Gakuen follows these formerly typical high schoolers as they become involved with the supernatural. [Written by MAL Rewrite] No background information has been added to this title. STORY (4) This movie starts off in a cliche manner. There's a new transfer student who, from his very first lines, we can confirm is not from Earth.

The plot is stupid. Half of the time I didn't even know what was going on. It starts of as a sort of slice of life, school romance with a touch of sci-fi but and then moves into weird territory concerning cellphones (and their banning), psychic powers, time travel and a troubling dictatorship subplot. And the characters, my god, don't get me started. There's the dull and boring main character, the life-long best friend neighbour girl I was looking forward to this movie for some time after reading MAL's synopsis, but after completing it, I felt as if I set my expectations too high. STORY (6) Nerawareta Gakuen, or Psychic School Wars, is a misnomer. Not once did anyone have a psychic battle against one another, let alone a war. From what I saw, a new handsome transfer student brainwashes all the students that had an aptitude to do some little magic, and were sent out to bully those who do not have powers. This in turn led to the tyranny of the student council, who created an inquisition hellbent on reprimanding those read more
