Yes, there actually is slight chance of getting free internet. So how you get it? In cafe look around for im-now-browsing-internet-on-my-mobile kind of people. If you see any, it probably means they have already entered their ETECSA code. Then you simply ask waitress for Wi-Fi password and join, because it will also work for you. Hopefully, this "other" person has just started his 1h session. ALL IN NOTES You will save so much of your glorious time-spent-in-internet if you write notes/comments/etc in offline, and then simply copy/paste them. AND CUP MONEY Tourists have CUC (1CUC=1$), locals have CUP. 1CUC=24CUP. Calculate every time going to more local places where prices are in CUP. They sometimes cheat on tourists. If there are "hundreds" for simple food, it's probably in CUP but make sure to clarify it before purchasing. VOLUT DOESN'T WORK IN CUBA As this card is very useful for traveling, unfortunately you can't top it up. So make sure to top it up before you reach Cuba. STORE DOESN'T WORK IN CUBA Also, make sure to download all apps that you might use while in Cuba as App Store will simply not work.

Especially I recommend "" for offline navigation, "" and "AirBnb" for living. POSSIBLE TO MAKE YOUR OWN MEALS It's impossible to make your own food in casa neither somewhere else. Be ready to pay 5$/pers for breakfast and about 10-15$/pers for dinner in Casa. We managed dinner outside about 5-9$/pers IS ALMOST NOTHING IN SHOPS If you want to by things like olives, ketchup or rice in smaller cities it will be hard to get it. If you want to buy eggs or bread it will be impossible to get it. There are some shops in more touristic towns (Trinidad, Varadero) where it's easier to get those but remember tip #6 You can wash your teeth but don't drink tap water! In most places even locals don't drink it because it's not clean. Buy water in bottles in places like - groceries store but make sure to check also cafes, bars as they will sell it too. Big bottle (5L=3$) will be cheaper than buying bunch of small ones GULAR FOOD IS NOT HEALTHY It's a lot of bread and oil in Cuba. They have some salads, but in general you have to walk hard to eat in balance.

Something went wrong, but don't fret — let's give it another shot.

It will be hard time finding anything in smaller cities outside Havana. Even if you do find place to buy it, it will be overpriced and very low quality. In case of emergency - search them in bigger hotel shops. APTERS+LONG CABLES In Cuba they mostly use type A, B sockets for electricity. Make sure your cables works with it or get adapter. Sometimes electricity contacts are in very strange places far away from bed or desk so make sure your cables is long enough. TCHES MAY BE USEFUL As you can't get super glue or duct tape, I used patches to fix my sunglasses 23. NO NETFLIX AND CHILL Download movies and series for offline use! Take physical or offline e-book with you. It will be useful if you're spending there more than few weeks. There are places without any nightlife or you'll be too tired do go out. So make sure to make most out of it. ORKELING EQUIPMENT If you love snorkeling equipment and have free space in your backpack - take it with you. There are a lot of places where you can snorkel and it will be lot cheaper.

You will have no insurance. Also from time to time you will end up on road which simply has dead end - happens even on main roads connecting bigger cities. COLECTIVO As there are bad roads in Cuba, transport is expensive. For regular taxi I once paid 90$ for 120km. Sometimes you have to bargain. Taxi colectivo is cheaper but still expensive. It's a little bit faster than bus and you go straight to your next Casa. BUS It's the best way for traveling. It's cheap, safe, but you have to buy tickets online, in advance. Usually it's booked out few days before departure, so you just can't go to bus station and get ticket straight before hopping in bus:( SPANISH WILL BE USEFUL Older people in taxi, casa or market doesn't speak English so make sure to know those basic Spanish phrases like numbers and things like "Hello! ", "Whats the price? " etc. I suggest on downloading some offline dictionary for this. NSCREEN AND TOILETRIES If you need sunscreen, toothpaste, shaver, other hygiene things, buy it before arriving in Cuba.

Hi! I've just visited West part of Cuba and it was fabulous. Yet there are some things I wish I knew before visiting this country. So here it is - 30 useful tips how to survive Cuba! Enjoy... 1. WIFI IS NOT FREE INTERNET You have 3 options to get internet in most cities BUY ETECSA CARD AND GO TO WIFI PARK. Usually you buy card in ETECSA shop (1h=1$), but beware of waiting lines in bigger cities. Or you buy ETECSA card on street, around wi-fi parks (1h=1. 5-3$). Park is good for small internet sessions, because easy to stop them in any time and usually speed is ok. WIFI IN CAFE OR CASA (HOME) - Even though this seems as free internet, it actually is not, meaning you still need to buy ETECSA card to use this internet. There are cafes or casas all around, stating "Free Wi-Fi", but that only means you can use their Wi-Fi to connect to ETECSA & internet. This option is good for accessibility, but bad because no way of stopping running session (at least i didn't found any) 1h = 1 session FREE WIFI IN CAFE OR CASA (HOME).

You will not be able to buy new snorkel equipment there. I rent one set for 10$/day. 25. HAMMOCK WOULD BE NICE If you have it and it's light, pack it in. There is numerous places in Varadero or Playa Larga where you can hang one in between palm trees. It looked so nice to see people relaxing there or reading a book, away from those louder places. TRAVELING If you're slow traveler and have plenty of time, stay in cities for about 5 days. Not more, cuz 1 week seemed a little too long. AS MUCH AS YOU CAN It's easy to hike around Cuba using "". That's the way you can save money, escape crowds and see real Cuba. It's super safe and locals don't mind if you cross their farms. IS CHILL It's not like super slow, but they surely are not in rush. Be ready for Viazul bus that stop at government cafes or souvenir shops for 1 hour or wait till lady will finish cleaning the shop, before selling you water. IS MUST SEE It's definitely worth to visit Cuba! It has such a cool vibe there. OF MY MUST SEE PLACES Vinales •Cueva de la Vaca •Los Acuaticos •Caverna de Santo Tomas (price for 1 hour tour = 20CUC/pers) Havana •get lost in city to explore old cars and beautiful houses •go for breakfast at El Cafe Trinidad •Parque El Cubano - nice hiking area with big swimming Javira Waterfall (price is 10CUC/pers).
