According to The Sopranos stars Steve Schirripa and Michael Imperioli, James Gandolfini once became so upset with convicted sex offender Harvey Weinstein that he threatened to "beat the fuck" out of him. Did Weinstein learn nothing about pissing off Tony Soprano? During an appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast this week, Schirripa, The Sopranos ' Bobby Baccalieri, and Imperioli (Christopher Moltisanti) recalled some of their favorite memories of their late co-star James Gandolfini, who died of a heart attack in 2013. Schirripa told host Joe Rogan that despite Gandolfini's brash on-screen persona, he was quiet off-screen, and he refused to appear on late night talk shows because he felt he wasn't "interesting enough. " That habit may have served him well throughout The Sopranos ' six-season run, but it caused him to clash with Weinstein, distributor on the 2012 crime drama Killing them Softly. Schirripa recalled that one day on set, Weinstein repeatedly called Gandolfini and urged him to appear on The Late Show with David Letterman to promote the upcoming film.

Even when loved ones and friends try to intervene, it doesn't always work – the person doesn't always listen. I enjoyed this book because it shows the pain and that sadness that accompany these types of situation. The Spectacular Now reminded me that these people are real and these things are happening to them. I think the saddest thing in the book is that Sutter doesn't even realize what he's doing to himself. Though this book isn't one I'd recommend to everyone, if you like books with a more serious tone to them, pick this one up. PS – The movie trailer looks so good!

The Spectacular Now is a contemporary YA novel by American writer Tim Tharp, published in 2008. The novel follows protagonist Sutter Keely, a warm-hearted young man with a hedonistic outlook on life. Sutter appears to be a shallow social butterfly, travelling between circles of friends, always the life of the party. He enjoys making other people feel good and making them laugh, and he has had a string of girlfriends, all of whom remain friends with him after their relationships inevitably fizzle out. But Sutter's carefree ways barely cover for the alcoholism he suffers from, his feelings of inadequacy, and the downward trajectory of his life. When he tries to 'save' teenaged Aimee from her difficult family life and low self-esteem, Sutter is really trying to save himself. The Spectacular Now was a National Book Award Finalist for Young People's Literature in 2008. The novel was adapted for film in 2013.
There are people in the world who have so much potential but just let everything go right down the drain. People who can't help but make bad choices. And though they're witty, kind, and charming – they have issues – they have problems. But they just can't seem to help themselves. Have you ever known anyone like this? I haven't and I think that may be why I felt both disconnected and connected with this book and with Sutter Keely. Disconnected in that I genuinely did not understand why he was doing what he was doing. And connected in that my heart ached for him – I wanted him to make the right choices for himself. I can't recall how many times I wanted to jump into this book and scream at Sutter – tell him how he was going down the wrong path, suggest to him how to get help – that he needed help. Addiction and substance abuse are scary – but these things real – and there are people out there battling them every day. To watch someone self-destruct is a painful and sad thing I think mostly because there is nothing you can do about it – the person is doing it to themselves.
